Jason Moran – STACKS
Luhring Augustine Gallery, West 24th Street 531, 10011 New York, Manhattan
About
STACKS is an exhibition of new and recent work by jazz pianist, composer, and artist Jason Moran at Luhring Augustine Gallery, his third solo show with the gallery. The presentation continues Moran's inquiry into the histories, objects, gestures, and ideas that shape jazz and its cultural landscape. At its center is a new sculpture of two small upright parlor pianos stacked on top of each other, alongside works on paper made by pressing a pigment-coated piano keyboard onto thin Japanese Gampi paper, a selection of the artist's collected jazz ephemera, and a new video work made in collaboration with photographer and filmmaker Ari Marcopoulos.
