About
Masha Masha Masha! is a play about a prominent Black family quarantined at its sprawling estate in Rochester, New York, where a birthday, a new baby, and a family reunion during a global pandemic become an unraveling of everything left unsaid. It was written by Edward (Eddie) Mawere, directed and dramaturged by Samali Tenzira Nangalama, and produced by Tyshon Boone. Inspired by Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters, it follows three sisters and the people orbiting them as marriages fracture, old loves resurface, and long-buried ambitions come roaring back, confronting the distance between the lives they imagined and the lives they've built. It is described as a contemporary, wickedly funny, and deeply human exploration of family, desire, ambition, inheritance, and the audacity of wanting something more, with mature language.
