Sankofa Series: Anime and Manga in Black...
Langston Hughes
About
Sankofa Series: Anime and Manga in Black America is an in-person session for adults and teens exploring Black anime and manga fandom, including the history of Black America's interest in anime and the growth of the subculture. It is part of the Sankofa Series, a monthly program of the Langston Hughes Community Library & Cultural Center exploring Black history, art, and culture. The series began during COVID-19 in response to national conversations about Black history and the Black Lives Matter movement and is now returning in a new form. October's sessions include a manga drawing workshop, discussions on Black intersectionality and culture in anime and manga, anime film screenings, and talks with creators and fans, drawing on resources from the Black Heritage Reference Center.
