About
A program on the life and work of Emma Lazarus (1849-1887), presented during services. It is given by West End Synagogue member Carole Kessner. Lazarus composed the sonnet inscribed at the base of the Statue of Liberty, aided refugees who had fled antisemitic pogroms in Eastern Europe, and encouraged Jews to move to Palestine. Carole will focus particularly on Lazarus' correspondence with Henry James.
