About
The Way We Live Now is a contemporary group exhibition drawn entirely from the holdings of the George Economou Collection, the first of its kind in its exhibition program. Co-curated by writer Hilton Als, Ann Philbin, director emeritus of the Hammer Museum, and Skarlet Smatana, director of the collection, it takes its title from Anthony Trollope's 1875 novel and explores how finance, industry, and desire shape artistic consciousness today. The show is arranged in three sections—Intimacy, Politics, and Being—moving from love and the romantic impulse to the vulnerable body in society and our collective existence. A publication with contributions by Hilton Als, Lisa Brice, Heather Ive, Ben Okri, and Charles Ray accompanies the exhibition.
