Transatlantik II with ReFash NYNY Band, Anaïs Maviel & Friends, DJ Tara
Public Records, Butler Street 233, 11217, Brooklyn
About
Transatlantik II is an evening of live music and DJ sets exploring the syncretic thought and spirit forms of the Black Atlantic, with performers drawing on the ancient and modern modalities of Haiti, Brazil and New York City. Night two features the Port-au-Prince via Brooklyn kanaval band ReFash NYNY Band, a rhythm and song connection from Anaïs Maviel & Friends, and roots-to-the-future collagist DJ Tara, who spins soulful selections before, after and between the live sets. ReFash NYNY Band, founded in Port-au-Prince in the 1980s as Fashion Mattè and now directed by Jean Wesly "Dadou" Cantave, is a high-energy bann a pye playing the rhythms of Haiti, while Maviel gathers longtime collaborators from New York and São Paulo's creative music communities around song and rhythm. All ticket proceeds from both nights are donated to Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees, a Brooklyn-based organization supporting those affected by the termination of Temporary Protection Status for Haiti.
