About
An evening film screening with a talk, presenting the biopic Ulya about the legendary Latvian basketball player Uļjana Semjonova. Director Viesturs Kairišs joins for a film talk after the screening. Set in Soviet Latvia in 1964, the film follows teenager Ulya, whose height approaches two meters on her family's farm, until a coach whisks her away to Riga to play basketball. As she rises toward stardom, she must deal with others seeing her as a means to their own ends and choose what she really wants.

Critics
Critics praise the striking black-and-white cinematography, restrained atmosphere, the lead's performance and an original take on the biopic. Some fault the casting decision, which creates a tension the film never fully resolves.
