Der Zauberer von Oz

"Der Zauberer von Oz" is a theatre production at Schauspielhaus Zürich at the Pfauen. Director Bastian Kraft tells, after the novel by L. Frank Baum, the story of the farm girl Dorothy, whom a tornado sweeps from Kansas into the fantastical land of Oz, where she sets out with a scarecrow, a tin man and a cowardly lion to find the wizard. Yet in this version Oz is no fairy-tale realm but a film set: Dorothy is offered the lead role, to play Judy Garland of the Hollywood musical, trapped in a dream factory of Technicolor and pills. Kraft thereby demystifies both the legend of Oz and the Hollywood dream factory in a visual spectacle of five to six interwoven strands of narrative.
