Next of Kin

"Next of Kin (Arven)" is a 1979 film from Norway by Anja Breien. The wealthy shipping magnate Kai Skaug dies unexpectedly at the age of 54, and the arriving relatives discover a catch in his will: his immense fortune must be managed jointly by a "united family" – otherwise it goes to the cancer charity. The polite family gathering descends into chaos as old conflicts come to a boil. The film was selected for the main competition in Cannes, where Ingmar Bergman praised it highly.
