Talk: Sonnenstürme im digitalen Zeitalter
ETH OAT, Andreasstrasse 5, 8050 Zürich, Kreis 11
About
The talk «Sonnenstürme im digitalen Zeitalter» is about space weather: the sun repeatedly hurls enormous amounts of energy and matter into space, reaching us as glowing polar lights but also posing dangers to digital infrastructure. Dr. Florian Kehl, Director Space Research Initiatives at ETH Space, explains how these huge eruptions arise, how solar storms can be observed and predicted, and which space probes help us keep an eye on the sun today and in the future. Space weather touches many areas of everyday life such as air traffic, power grids, communication and navigation systems and agriculture. The talk lasts 45 minutes, is aimed at adults, requires no registration, is in German with English translation via Accessify, and afterwards the researchers are available for about 15 minutes to answer questions.
