About
The exhibition "Translating the Rural. Wooden Churches, Open-Air Museums and Modern Architecture in Interwar East-Central Europe" is on show at the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture (gta) at ETH Zurich. It is the work of Radu Remus Macovei, a doctoral researcher at the gta. It traces how three wooden churches from mountain villages were moved during the interwar period to Prague, Bucharest and Lviv as part of Czechoslovak, Romanian and Ukrainian national projects. It presents findings from his doctoral thesis "Moving Churches, Making Nations" and from the design research project "Ligneous Worlds".
