About
"Ach, du fröhliche" is a classic Christmas film from East Germany, full of wit and heart. In Dresden on Christmas Eve 1961, a plant director has to step in as a substitute Santa Claus and looks forward to a cozy family celebration, but his daughter brings along her fiancé, who turns out to be an outspoken critic of the socialist state. Director Günter Reisch turns the small and big quarrels of the Christmas season into a sparkling comedy. Erwin Geschonneck, Karin Schröder and Günter Junghans play the leading roles.
