About

The exhibition "Dreamers: Russian Queer Couples in Exile" presents photographic portraits of queer couples from Russia who fled abroad after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine and discriminatory laws since 2023, among other places to Turkey, Georgia and Germany. Behind the long-term portrait project stands the Russian-born photographer and visual artist Sergei Stroitlev, who himself left Russia in March 2022 because of war censorship and now lives in Berlin. His work explores questions of minority identity and prejudice based on origin, religion, gender and sexual orientation. All the protagonists dream of peace and hope to find the right path through love, despite the scars and traumas the past has left behind.
