Volker Kreidler | Half Life Chornobyl
Bastion Kronprinz / Zitadelle Spandau, Am Juliusturm 64 13599 Berlin
About
The exhibition "Half Life Chornobyl" in the Bastion Kronprinz at the Zitadelle Spandau presents photographs from Volker Kreidler's long-term project of the same name. The photographer, born in 1962, has documented the consequences of the Chornobyl reactor disaster for people, places and nature since 1995, first on commission from the Deutsches Hygienemuseum Dresden, and returned to the exclusion zone in 2015 to capture nature's reclamation in the near absence of humans. In 2025 he travelled to Kyiv again, and these images bear witness to the resilience of people in Kyiv and the exclusion zone under the conditions of Russia's war of aggression. The project addresses the risks of nuclear power, from invisible radiation to systemic corruption and escalation through acts of war.
