Berliner Industriekultur entdecken - die Siemens-Villa in Marzahn-Hellersdorf
Schloss Biesdorf, Alt-Biesdorf 55, 12683 Berlin, Biesdorf
About
The event invites visitors to discover Berlin's industrial heritage at the Siemens mansion in Marzahn-Hellersdorf, affectionately called a "palace" and known as Schloss Biesdorf. The late-classicist villa with its striking octagonal tower is the oldest Berlin building by architect Heino Schmieden and was acquired by Werner von Siemens in 1868, whose son Wilhelm devoted himself there to technical studies. Today, as the municipal gallery of the district with free admission, the house shows changing exhibitions of contemporary art, a permanent exhibition on the building's history and architecture, and presentations of GDR art in cooperation with the Kunstarchiv Beeskow. This includes a public park designed in the English style by Alfred Brodersen on behalf of Wilhelm von Siemens.
