An open-access presentation at the Kunstbibliothek looks back at the old Tiergarten district around Matthäikirchplatz as it stood about a century ago. It comes from the Kunstbibliothek of the Berlin State Museums, which studies the neighbourhood as an early centre of modernism. Images and texts follow wealthy entrepreneurs, artists, art dealers, fashion designers, interior designers and collectors whose grand houses turned the area into one of Berlin's most elegant quarters. The display traces their work in art, literature, music and fashion, and the cultural flourishing that the Nazi state brutally ended in 1933.
