About
A guided tour of the Bilderkeller of the Academy of Arts, where master students celebrated carnival in 1957 and 1958 during the political „thaw period“, leaving behind wall paintings. The preserved works by Manfred Böttcher, Harald Metzkes, Ernst Schroeder and Horst Zickelbein are unique testimonies of the young opposition in East Berlin painting, reflecting artistic and political debates in East and West. A media station presents interviews with contemporary witnesses such as Fritz Cremer and Helene Weigel. The cellar can only be visited as part of the tour, which is limited to 14 participants.
