About
A workshop on making images from plant pigments, held as part of Berlin Science Week. Grace Baggott and Vanessa Garcia lead the session, which opens with a short talk on how plant pigments react to sunlight, why each species produces a different colour, and what this shares with photosynthesis. Participants then extract pigments from kitchen materials, coat paper, and arrange objects on its surface, using anthotype, one of the oldest analog image-making processes, in which images form through the reactions of plant pigments exposed to light. Since anthotype takes time, participants are invited to return a week later to collect their panel and join a second gathering on plant knowledge traditions that predate Western botany.
