Der Aufenthalt: Frank Beyer's 1983 feature film.

„Der Aufenthalt“ is a feature film from 1983, shown here as a 35mm print with an introduction and a film talk with dramaturg Christina Schmidt. Directed by Frank Beyer after Hermant Kant's 1977 novel, the film follows young German prisoner of war Mark Niebuhr, who arrives at Warsaw train station in October 1945. A Polish woman believes he is the SS man who murdered her daughter, and he is arrested, interrogated and harassed for reasons initially unclear to him. When transferred to a cell with German fellow prisoners under strict military order, he isolates himself from the group.
