Heimsuchung - Eine Jahrhundertgeschichte
About
„Heimsuchung – Eine Jahrhundertgeschichte“ is a feature film based on Jenny Erpenbeck's 2007 novel „Heimsuchung“. It was directed by Volker Schlöndorff and stars Martina Gedeck, Lars Eidinger, Susanne Wolff, Michael Maertens and Ulrich Matthes, among others. It tells of four families whose fates intertwine over a century on a plot of land by a lake near Berlin: from a Jewish cloth manufacturer losing his land in the 1930s and an architect failing in the GDR, to a writer finding refuge after exile and her granddaughter, who spends her summers there until the Wall falls.

Critics
Critics praise the evocative landscapes, telling period details and strong cast, but fault a simplified adaptation that dutifully ticks off German history and omits locals entirely.
