About
A premiere of the 45-minute documentary "Ende einer Freundschaft – Deutschland und Amerika nach 9/11 – End of a Friendship – Germany and USA after 9/11", screened on the eve of the U.S. midterm elections. The film by Stefan Buchen and John Götz offers a backstage look, featuring key historical figures from the White House and the Kanzleramt, at the contrast between Germany's public self-image and its actual behavior during the U.S.-led "Global War on Terror". Afterwards, Deborah Feldman interviews sociologist Teresa Koloma Beck about her work on the disconnect between Germany's international self-image and its new ethno-nationalism. Drinks follow in the cinema lobby.
