About
Ghost in the Shell is a cult anime classic from 1995, a dark cyberpunk vision of a world where people augment their bodies with artificial implants. Directed by Mamoru Oshii, it follows Major Motoko Kusanagi and the special unit Section 9 as they hunt a mysterious hacker known as the Puppet Master, who can invade the cyberbrains of cyborgs and alter their victims' memories. The wildly influential film is considered, alongside Akira, a key pioneer of anime's international breakthrough and inspired the Matrix trilogy. It is essential viewing for fans of intelligent science fiction like I, Robot, Matrix or A.I.
