About
Harlem Renaissance is a performative intervention with actor Langston Uibel, taking place as part of the exhibition The Heart of the Matter featuring photographs by Carrie Mae Weems. Developed with director Sarah Elisabeth Braun and produced by Coldharbour Lane, it brings texts by Toni Morrison and Langston Hughes together with music in dialogue with the photographs on display. The intervention explores questions of Black identity and belonging in Germany, inspired among other things by The Sweet Flypaper of Life. Its creative process becomes directly tangible for the audience through a rehearsal staged with string instruments.
