About

Lichtblick-Kino screens the documentary “Audre Lorde – The Berlin Years 1984 to 1992” (OmeU) by Dagmar Schultz, followed by the short film “Witness History – Ika Hügel-Marshall”. The film documents a little-known chapter in the life of the Black lesbian writer Audre Lorde: her influence on Berlin’s political and cultural scene from 1984 to 1992. It explores how she encouraged Afro-Germans to make themselves visible in a culture that had left them isolated and voiceless, and how the Afro-German and anti-racist movements emerged before and after reunification. For the first time, Schultz’s archival video and audio recordings are being made available to a wide public.
