About
A public guided tour of the Music Instrument Museum presents highlights of its collection with live sound samples, alongside a demonstration of the Mighty Wurlitzer theatre organ. It is hosted by the Staatliches Institut für Musikforschung – Preußischer Kulturbesitz, whose museum holds around 3,600 instruments of European art music from the 16th to the 21st century, some 800 of them on permanent display. The pieces shown include instruments once owned by Frederick the Great, strings by Stradivari, Galiano and Stainer, the "Bach harpsichord" and the Mighty Wurlitzer, the largest instrument in the collection, which is played live. The short concert with commentary explores the organ's wide palette of sounds, from famous film melodies and pop songs to classical favourites.
