About
A public lecture titled „Written in the Stars? The Philosophical Defense of Astrology“ examining how astrology was philosophically justified in the ancient and medieval worlds. The speaker is Peter Adamson, Chair of Late Ancient and Arabic Philosophy at LMU Munich, hosted by the ASTRA research group of the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science as part of its High Gravity Talks series. The talk shows how Greek and Arabic thinkers such as Alexander of Aphrodisias, Plotinus, al-Kindī and Abū Maʿshar defended astrology—some seeing the stars as directly influencing events, others as a kind of „sky writing“, signs that point to events without causing them. Attendance is free but registration is required; the event is sold out but will be live-streamed.
