The documentary film “Junkies of Dreaming – Mahler 3 Currentzis” follows the Greek conductor Teodor Currentzis rehearsing Mahler's Third Symphony at the Berlin Funkhaus. Shot in Cinemascope, the film embarks on a trip into the abysses of Gustav Mahler's music. On a second level, Currentzis lies with closed eyes on a couch in a dark studio of the Funkhaus, listening through headphones to the recording just completed and telling what goes through his mind as if he were conducting the piece at that moment — a very personal insight into the inner world of a conductor in the moment of a concert. Excursions lead into the genesis of the symphony and into Teodor Currentzis' own compositional work.
