A reading and conversation with Michael Feindler about his picture book „Osmans Garten“, hosted by the Stadtbibliothek Reinickendorf. It tells the true story of the Anatolian guest worker Osman Kalin, who in the 1980s laid out a vegetable garden on a patch of wasteland in Kreuzberg right by the Berlin Wall, which became known as the „Baumhaus an der Mauer“. The garden became known beyond the region as a symbol of gentle resistance, against the madness of the Cold War on the one hand and bureaucratic pedantry on the other. The book brings a piece of Berlin's past close to children and is at the same time a timeless, friendly plea for more humanity and mutual tolerance.
