The Architects is an exhibition showing a large-scale painting by Megan Francis Sullivan in the window space at GROTTO. Megan Francis Sullivan is the artist behind the work, a 2014 painting based on a 2009 photograph of three men taking a smoke break on a rooftop terrace, whom the title identifies as architects. A text by Helmut Draxler relates the painting to the modernist idea of the architect as a social shaper and to Gerhard Rommel's monument to the builders of the city centre near Alexanderplatz. The work highlights gesture, style and the social bond of the men, and the layered times of photograph, painting and viewing.
