Guided tour of the Bundesarchiv: Reich and GDR files.
Öffentliche Führung durch das Bundesarchiv in Berlin-Lichterfelde
About
A public guided tour of the Federal Archives (Bundesarchiv) facility in Berlin-Lichterfelde, on Finckensteinallee. The Bundesarchiv invites visitors to discover the site's eventful history: built in 1873 as the Prussian main cadet institution, later used as a grammar school, then home to the Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler from 1933, and until the Americans left in 1994 a US Army base called "Andrew Barracks". Today the site houses the usage centre opened in 2021 with over 100 workspaces, holding central state records of the German Reich up to 1945 and of the GDR. After the roughly one-hour tour, which requires no registration, guests are invited to the lecture "Von der Bühne auf die Straße. Theater in der späten DDR" by Dr. Jutta Braun.
