About
Öffentliche Führung „Inhaftiert am Alexanderplatz“ is a guided tour through a former remand prison at Alexanderplatz in Berlin. It is organised by Lernort Keibelstraße and covers the history of the site, the fates of the people imprisoned there and the conditions in which they were held in Keibelstraße. Between 1951 and 1990 the remand prison Berlin-Mitte, also called UHA II, stood in Keibelstraße; it was subordinate to the Ministry of the Interior and located inside the East Berlin headquarters of the People's Police. Another focus is on the structural changes, because from 1990 film and music producers used the lower floors of the former prison as a set and remade parts of the cell block; the tour takes about 45 minutes, after which there is time to explore the site on your own.
