About
Bohneville hosts the October solo show of the painter RABE – born Christian Eickelberg, known online as Rabentinte. He paints bestiaries: wolves with too many heads, panthers filled with stars, dragons in prison stripes, usually in flat, loud yellows, peaches and mints with hard outlines. At first glance the work looks like folk art, but a closer look reveals marginal notes such as „no kings“ or „disobey“ between the figures, with alchemical symbols beside command lines. He taught himself both painting and programming, and sees trance and syntax as two ways of doing the same work, fed by pop and internet culture, daily politics, esoterics and long night-time walks through Berlin.
