About
"Die Benin Bronzen – Restitution und was nun?" is a public guided tour for adults at the Humboldt Forum. The Benin Bronzes, looted in 1897 by British colonists, have become a global symbol of the hundreds of thousands of African cultural goods that European colonial powers unlawfully appropriated and displayed in museums. In 2021 the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz decided to restitute the bronzes to Nigeria. The tour takes a multiperspective look at the histories of Benin art and asks what happens after the return; it was developed together with mediators from the National Museum Benin City.
