About
„Samstag im Archiv“ is a monthly event offering talks and tours about the files of the East German secret police. It is hosted by the Bundesarchiv's Stasi-Unterlagen-Archiv Schwerin; this time Dr. Ronny Heidenreich gives the talk „Echos aus Ungarn. Der Aufstand 1956 und sein Widerhall im Norden der DDR“ on the crushing of the Hungarian uprising and the reactions of the East German state security. Afterwards he leads a tour through the archive, which stores about 2,370 running metres of files of the state security of the Schwerin district. Visitors may also apply for personal access to their Stasi files, for which a valid identity document is required.
