About
"Scherbenland" is a documentary about the band Ton Steine Scherben, whose first album began with the question "Warum geht es mir so dreckig?" ("Why do I feel so lousy?"). In the early 1970s, Kreuzberg became a testing ground for a counterculture, and with songs like "Macht kaputt, was euch kaputt macht" the band gave a generation a voice. In their film, Lutz Pehnert and Ferdinand Hübner trace what became of this awakening, meeting musicians in today's Berlin such as the rap trio RAPK and songwriter Maike Rosa Vogel. It is a film about music and poetry as resistance, then and now, and about whether they still have the power to change a city.
