The documentary »Optische Schreie – Die Geschichte des Aachener Wandmalers Klaus Paier« is being shown at Kino Brotfabrik. Lovorka Perić-Hassler, a filmmaker living in Aachen, made this first comprehensive documentation of Klaus Paier, a pioneer of street art in Germany. Paier, a trained physicist and self-taught artist, treated mural painting as political art, and with his quote »Unser Museum ist die Stadt« gave public space back to the people symbolically and artistically. Using interviews, archive footage and conversations with the late artist, the film looks at the spirit of the 1970s to 1990s and the controversial reactions to his work, from walls being painted over to his pieces being honoured as monuments.
