About
"Schwerer Stoff" (Heavy Fabric) is an exhibition at the Museum of European Cultures in Berlin-Dahlem. It presents about 20 clothing ensembles of the Danube Swabians, descendants of German-speaking emigrants who settled in the Kingdom of Hungary between the late 17th and 19th centuries. The pieces come from the Donauschwäbisches Zentralmuseum in Ulm. With photographs and drawings, they tell of the lives of women and girls, which were narrow because of village and church rules yet wide in a multicultural society, and of memories woven into textiles.
