Once Upon a time in Harlem

The cinema on Lindower Straße hosts the German premiere of "Once Upon a Time in Harlem", a film built from unseen material from 1972. Back then, filmmaker William Greaves invited artists and intellectuals of the Harlem Renaissance to a filmed afternoon at Duke Ellington's townhouse, which remained unseen for more than five decades. In 2026 his son David Greaves turned it into a film about art, politics and Black life in the USA. The conversation recalls jazz, literature, photography and theatre and asks how these memories continue to resonate today.
