Cabinets Unlocked, 17 Oct–1 Nov 2026
Ham House, Petersham
Free event (admission applies)
About
Cabinets Unlocked is a rare chance to see inside Ham House's highly decorative cabinets, which are opened just twice a year to protect their pristine interiors. Over twenty prized cabinets and writing desks will be opened and on display, along with strongboxes and miniature cabinets, coinciding with the conservation team's condition checks. The collection includes marquetry, lacquer and exquisite veneers from Japan, China, Holland and England, with highlights such as the Ivory Cabinet from around 1660 and the Marquetry Cabinet, one of the earliest recorded examples of floral marquetry in England. From 19 to 23 October, volunteer guides will also give short pop-up talks in the Long Gallery, subject to volunteer availability.
