Daniel Buren
Lisson Gallery, Bell Street 27, London, Paddington
About
An exhibition by the French contemporary artist Daniel Buren, taking over the spaces of the Musée des impressionnismes Giverny. Born in 1938, Buren is known for his in situ works using alternating white and coloured vertical bands 8.7 cm thick, which reveal and highlight places and their contexts. His new site-specific creation, 'Plantations, travaux in situ', extends from the gardens outside into the museum's interior, creating a dialogue between the environment of Giverny and works in the collection. A century after Claude Monet's death, it builds on the Impressionists' interest in the changing effects of colour and light in nature.
