About

Earthly Paradise: Radical Living in the UK is a major touring exhibition about the people and places that have shaped art and activism across Britain over the last 200 years. Presented by William Morris Gallery, it was developed in partnership with Tŷ Pawb in Wrexham, Blackwell – The Arts & Crafts house in Bowness-on-Windermere, and Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh, who work together as Four Lanterns as part of Art Fund's Going Places programme. Through objects, painting, drawing, photography, sound and archival material, it highlights individuals and communities who defied conventions and the homes they created to realise new visions of society, including William Morris's Red House, Charleston, Benton End, Prospect Cottage and Dial House. Curated by Hadrian Garrard, Linsey Young and Tayyabah Tahir, it also considers the role that money and class have played in access to these spaces and in imagining new ways of living.
