Golden Boy

Almeida Theatre, Islington

About

Golden Boy is a revival of Clifford Odets' American classic, staged as a propulsive drama with a live string quartet. Director Sam Yates directs Josh O'Connor in the production. It is set in 1930s New York during the Depression, where Joe Bonaparte, a gifted young violinist, is lured into professional boxing by a chance at fame and fortune. Pressured by a ruthless manager, a forbidden love and his Italian-American family, Joe is torn between the American Dream and a decent life.
