About

NT Live: Golden Boy is a filmed theatre performance, screened at a small cinema, of a revival of Clifford Odets' American classic about 1930s New York during the Depression. Sam Yates, an Olivier Award-winner, directs this drama about Joe Bonaparte, a gifted young violinist lured by fame and fortune into the brutal world of professional boxing. Josh O'Connor leads the cast, with Hayley Squires and Daniel Mays, and the performance was filmed live from the Almeida Theatre with a live string quartet. The story explores ambition, identity, and the high price of success, as Joe confronts what he is willing to sacrifice and how to find his place in a world that demands he choose a side.
