About

LIBERATING: She Dances (in Chains) is a visceral physical theatre work about discipline, masking and the paradox of agency within constraint. Created, produced and performed by Xiaoyao Luo, it uses chains, masks, movement and multilingual text to move through the roles a woman is taught to inhabit, from daughter and student to lover and mother. It sketches a world of internalised surveillance where social scripts become muscle memory, asking what freedom might be when conduct is measured from within. Recommended for ages 16+, it runs 50 minutes and contains chains, masks, physical restraint, intense movement and swearing.
