LIFEM26: Ensemble Inventio
Blackheath Halls, 23 Lee Road, SE3 9RQ London
£30 / £20
About
A 75-minute concert of motets, chansons, dances and improvisations from the court of Marguerite of Austria, one of the most powerful women of her age, who kept her own court in Mechelen with a chapel choir of leading composers. It is performed by Ensemble Inventio, an improvising renaissance wind ensemble directed by Ian Harrison, a virtuoso player of the shawm, cornett and bagpipes. The programme draws on Marguerite's library, including manuscripts of polyphonic music and one of the first surviving collections of dance music with choreographies. The concert is included in the LIFEM Festival Pass.
