About

An interactive exhibition at Somerset House by artist Êvar Huseynî, exploring how protest, music and celebration can resist the erasure of language and national identity. Drawing on a Kurdish feminist approach to listening as an active political gesture, it considers how shared practices of expression and gathering can sustain cultural memory in the face of suppression. Taking its title from a poem by the artist's father, it combines personal archives with materials from WANAWAL, the West Asian and North African Women's Art Library founded by Huseynî in 2019 and based at Somerset House Studios. On show are a newly produced film and musical composition made with Kurdish harpist Tara Jaff, alongside an installation of family photographs, archival sound and ephemera.
