About
Sanlé Sory: Colour Years is an exhibition at The Photographers' Gallery showing the rarely seen colour photographs of Burkinabé photographer Sanlé Sory for the first time in the UK. Sory, one of West Africa's most prolific photographers, began making colour portraits in his Volta Photo studio in the mid-1980s after becoming known for his black-and-white studio and nightlife pictures. The meticulously restored colour prints capture daily life, youth culture, music and fashion in Burkina Faso across decades of political shifts, alongside Volta Jazz record covers featuring his portraits. Curated by Taous Dahmani and produced by The Photographers' Gallery, the show is drawn from the Sanlé Sory Archive.
