Bin Kuroshima: Hand-Painted Kyo-Yuzen at Carl Hansen & Søn

An exhibition of hand-painted Kyo-Yuzen, Kyoto's tradition of dyeing painted by hand, presented at the Midtown Manhattan flagship store of the Danish furniture maker Carl Hansen & Søn. The works are by Bin Kuroshima, a Kyoto dye artist of more than four decades who is a nationally certified Traditional Craftsman and was named a Master Craftsman of Kyoto in 2007. The show brings together screens, tapestries, scrolls and panels colored largely with botanical dyes and sumi ink, alongside new fusuma paintings, paintings on wood, kimono pieces and hand-painted boards and tote bags. It is Kuroshima's first exhibition with Carl Hansen & Søn, and he will attend the opening reception, with admission free.
