About

Miller Theatre presents the Concert Premiere of "Macabéa", a new opera by composer Suzanne Farrin, as part of its Composer Portraits series. The work, with a libretto by Sergio Chejfec, is based on Clarice Lispector's final novel "The Hour of the Star" and confronts the forces of poverty and power with emotional intensity. It is performed by the Talea Ensemble under conductor Eduardo Leandro with vocal soloists including Charlotte Mundy and Christopher Dylan Herbert. A post-show discussion with Suzanne Farrin and Melissa Smey follows, ahead of the opera's full premiere in Brazil in 2028.
