About

Asia Society hosts the launch of the book 'Dansaekhwa: Korean Abstract Art and Its Cultural Impact'. Author and art historian Dr. Yeon Shim Chung joins art critic Andrew Russeth, Editor-in-Chief of Artnet News, in conversation. Dansaekhwa, literally 'monochrome painting', emerged in 1970s postwar South Korea and pushed painting beyond the canvas into drawing, craft, sculpture, installation, and conceptual art. The discussion will cover the movement's historical contexts, philosophical underpinnings, and international legacy, with a book signing to follow.
